Nice mom and pa place. Good food at good prices.
I love the food & the atmosphere 😁
Clean and friendly also the food is 👍
Totally delicious food and really nice folks!
Closed just before lunch and didn't open back up
Yummy. Delicious food that's fast, but not fast food. Seasoned perfectly while not being overly spicy. Love how informal and comfy it is. Only quibble is that the crab rice had meat in it, which was unexpected and unwanted. Still tasted great, as did the crab cake and fried shrimp. Staff was super sweet.
Food was not fresh, they had the food buffet style. Walked in and walked right back out.
Gullah cooking at its finest!
Meh...Food is nothing to write home about.
Awesome and delicious food! And awesome people!
SuperB fried fish!
Closed even though within hours on door.Better phone first.
My husband and I visited this place we decided to just cruise on over to Beaufort for one of our lunch dates and I was looking online trying to decide which restaurant to eat from and I came across this one I’d always talked about trying some of this good Gullah food I’d been hearing about.....As we approached the restaurant it’s just a beautiful scenery outside, which was a plus and as we entered the restaurant it was beautiful inside and the staff was very friendly. We both ordered the special which was the Monday special Smothered Pork Chop, Crabby Rice, MAC and Cheese, Okra/Tomatoes, & Black Eyed Peas, Cornbread and for dessert we had Peach Cobbler. We chose to eat outside just in case something didn’t taste right to our liking we wouldn’t offend anyone since this was both our first times eating this type of food! All I can say is I think we came on the wrong day😟 either some of the food wasn’t fresh or it just tastes that way. I’m definitely willing to give it another try though.
I've been here three times, and the food is never fresh. The rice is crunchy and old. It's a nice restaurant with friendly staff, I just wish I didn't receive Monday's food, on a Friday ☹☹☹☹
Good food
Incredible!!!! Being cajun I am a bit of a food snob having eaten at some of the best south Louisiana has to offer. Mama Lou's serves "Gullah" cuisine which is identical in many ways to the soul food of south Louisiana. The smothered pork chops were huge and tender, rice and gravy, blackeye peas, mac n cheese and I got a side of yams as well. Hot cornbread and peach cobbler....it was outstanding. Mama Lou's is going to be a regular stop for me during the week. Having moved to Beaufort recently I have tried several restaurants and this is the BEST SO FAR.
Truly outstanding frogmore stew! Great service and experience also!
Food was excellent service was fast and attentive.
Underwhelming, small portions.
The food is delicious, we had fried shrimp, fish and crab cake. Great folksie atmosphere. Momma Lou and staff made us feel right at home. Topped it off with great banana pudding.
Just down the road from Parris Island Marine Corps Depot, we stopped in for dinner. We had a wonderful experience at this small little cafe with excellent and truly handmade food. We completed the meal with a very enjoyable conversation about food with the owner and cooks.
LOVE LOVE LOVE IT...WISH I WOULD'VE TOOKEN A PICTURE OF WHAT I HAD B 4 I STARTED EATING LOL...BUT I HAD RED RICE,GREENS,RIBS,MAC AND CHEESE, CORNBREAD(THAT WAS MADE DIFFERENT)AND THEY GAVE MY BOYFRIEND AND I A NICE SIZE PIECE OF BREAD PUDDING FREE, FOR FIRST TIME COMING N...THEY ARE LIKE FAMILY...
Real comfort food. A must stop
Good food and very fair prices. The owners are so gracious funny and generous.
Like the food especially the fry chicken
Great people, excellent food 10 stars
The food is phenomenal! She has all the food in your Mamas southern kitchen for real! Everything is seasoned and perfected to the T! You will not regret your visit
Awesome yet under new management. New Name "Mama's Kitchen"
Great food, good soulful southern experience. A place to go for traditional big momma style cooking.
Amazing! We ordered crab cakes, fried chicken, sweet potato fries, crab fried rice - all delicious - and were sent out the door with extra fried chicken and dessert. Owners are some of the friendliest people we met while on holiday in SC. Definitely recommend!
Love. It's what you'll get with their soulful southern cuisine. Daily specials including gumbo, fried chicken, shrimp 'n grits, sweet potato pie, etc. Closed on Wednesdays.
I love this restaurant!
Outstanding! Staff was so friendly and so were the patrons. Had a fantastic lunch here, quite reminiscent of Grandma's cooking. So many choices, was hard to pick what main item and sides to have. Settled on the fried chicken, blackeyed peas, mac & cheese, and okra. Dessert was wonderful too, had a blueberry cobbler with plump delicious blueberries. So good, do yourself a favor and stop by.
The staff was very friendly, and the food was different but good. Some of it didn’t seem so fresh, though. They were sort of busy but it’s a small place, so it’s easy to get that way. They forgot the order of someone I was with, but realized it and got his food out. It was a neat experience to try something new, because I love classic southern food and it was nice to try something from it’s roots. I loved the corn bread! I ordered fried chicken, Mac and and cheese, and okra and tomatoes- with some banana pudding. My husband felt that it was priced too high for what it was.
Man oh man goooood
Staff is not friendly at all, the grits so thick & Lumpy @ the food is not worth the money
Great atmosphere
I HAVE to give it Top 5! This is the only restaurant you would find me in every single day of the week, and not for any dollar or EVEN FOOD. The atmosphere where I truly belong, and where any one I actually trust should be with me - that's what I get out of Momma Lou's.
